The Department of Health in Western Australia, Perth is divided into three separate health services; East Metropolitan, North Metropolitan and South Metropolitan


East Metropolitan Health Service

East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) comprises an extensive hospital and health service network that serves a catchment area of 725,500. Hospitals within the Health Service include:

Armadale Health Service

  • AHS is a 290 bed hospital that offers a range of medical specialities including 24 hour emergency services, intensive care, general medicine and surgery, mental health, maternity and paediatric care.

Bentley Health Service

  • BHS is a 199 bed hospital located 10 kilometres from the Perth Central Business District and includes rehabilitation, elective and same-day surgery, aged care and mental health services. 

Kalamunda Hospital

  • KH provides inpatient palliative care, geriatric medicine and low risk endoscopic surgery services. Kalamunda Hospital does not operate an Emergency Department. For those requiring emergency assistance, the closest Emergency Department is at St John of God Midland Public Hospital.

Royal Perth Hospital

  • RPH is a 450 bed tertiary hospital that provides an extensive range of services, including adult major trauma, emergency, complex and elective surgery, highly-specialised surgical services, tertiary mental health, specialist medical services, and a range of same-day clinical support services.

St John of God Midland Public Hospital

  • SJOG Midland is a 307 bed public hospital operated under a public-private partnership between the State Government and St John of God Health Care. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of services including emergency medicine, critical care, day chemotherapy, paediatric care, aged and stroke care, maternity and general surgery.

North Metropolitan Health Service

North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) comprises an extensive hospital and health service network that serves a catchment area of 729,144 (approximately 28% of Western Australia’s total population). Hospitals within the Health Service include:

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

  • SCGH is a 600 bed hospital and is one of Australia's leading tertiary hospitals. SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical services including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

Osborne Park Hospital

  • OPH is a specialist hospital that provides specialist rehabilitation and aged care services and younger adult rehabilitation, surgical services and maternity services.

King Edward Memorial Hospital

  • KEMH is WA’s only tertiary maternity and gynaecological hospital and the only major referral centre for high-risk pregnancies. More than 6,000 births take place at the hospital every year. 

Graylands Hospital

  • GH is WA’s only public psychiatric teaching hospital, delivering mental health acute care and rehabilitation services for adults. The hospital has a 121 bed inpatient unit that caters to youths, adults and older adults. The Unit consists of 54 acute beds and 67 extended stay beds. Co-located on the Graylands Health Campus is the State Forensics Mental Health Service which includes the Frankland Centre, a maximum secured inpatient facility.

Joondalup Health Campus

  • JHC is a 722 bed hospital that provides a range of medical and surgical services, maternity services, neonatal and paediatric services, and aged care and rehabilitation services to Perth’s northern corridor. JHC is one of the largest hospitals in Western Australia. JHC is managed by Australia’s largest private hospital operator, Ramsay Health Care, under a long-standing Public-Private Partnership agreement with the State Government.

South Metropolitan Health Service

The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) delivers hospital and community-based public health care services to nearly a quarter of WA’s population across 9 local government areas in southern metropolitan Perth. In addition, SMHS provides services to WA Country Health Service (WACHS) patients from the Great Southern, South West, Southern Wheatbelt and Goldfields.

Fiona Stanley Hospital

  • FSH is a 783 bed hospital and the major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan area of Perth. It offers comprehensive health care services to adults, youth and children. 

Fremantle Hospital

  • FH is a 300 bed hospital that plays a vital role in supporting the tertiary services of Fiona Stanley Hospital. It offers a range of services including mental health, aged care, and elective surgical services.

Rockingham General Hospital

  • RGH is a 239 bed general hospital that provides acute and general medicine, palliative care, paediatrics, obstetric and neonatal services, surgical including ENT, gastroenterology, general, gynaecology, orthopaedic, urology, plastics and paediatric (general), intensive care and psychiatry (adult and older adult) services. 

Murray District Hospital

  • MDH is a 28 bed hospital located in Pinjarra. Medical care is provided by medical staff from Rockingham General Hospital and local GP's credentialed with admitting rights.

Peel Health Campus

  • PHC is a 193 bed public and private hospital with 152 acute care beds. PHC is managed in partnership with private provider, Ramsay Health Care Australia.

Aurora Health

  • Abbotsford Private Hospital
    • A 30 bed inpatient hospital that specialises in providing high quality mental health care. Services include: Dual diagnosis and comorbidity, mental health, trauma, addictions, substance use disorders, acute adult psychiatry, inpatient therapy programs, DBT inpatient and day programs, CBT-based programs.
  • Marian Centre
    • A 69-bed private hospital that specialise in providing high quality mental health care. Services include: ECT and rTMS, trauma and dissociation, older persons mental health, acute adult psychiatry, inpatient therapy programs, veterans and emergency services mental health, DBT inpatient and day programs, CBT-based programs.


Ramsay Health Care

  • Glengarry Private Hospital
    • A 110 bed hospital offering a range of services including maternity, endoscopy, palliative care, surgical, rehabilitation and medical services
  • Hollywood Private Hospital
    • Western Australia's largest private hospital, with a total of 860 licensed beds. The hospital employs specialists from a wide range of disciplines including cardiology, gastroenterology, general medicine, general surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, palliative care, psychiatry, rehabilitation and urology.
  • Joondalup Private Hospital
    • A 146 bed private hospital that offers a range of medical and surgical services, maternity services, neonatal and paediatric services, and aged care and rehabilitation.
  • Attadale Rehabilitation Hospital
    • A state of the art 39-bed facility providing inpatient care, therapy and support to assist patients in recovering from an extended medical illness or recent surgery

St John of God

  • St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital
    • A 205-bed hospital providing maternity, medical and surgical, mental health and therapy, rehabilitation, community and youth, healthcare at home, and pathology services.
  • St John of God Subiaco Hospital
    • A 578 bed hospital providing maternity, medical and surgical, rehabilitation, community and youth, healthcare at home, and pathology services.
  • St John of God Murdoch Hospital
    • A 507 bed hospital providing a 24 hour Emergency Department, medical and surgical services, paediatrics, maternity, palliative care, critical and coronary care.


Cura Day Hospitals

  • Subiaco Private Hospital
    • An accredited multi-disciplinary hospital that provides 2 operating theatres, 9 overnight beds and 8 recovery beds. Specialty services include ENT, otology, plastic & reconstructive, ophthalmic, oral and maxillofacial and general surgery.
  • West Leederville Private Hospital
    • With 8 overnight beds and 11 recovery beds and the hospital provides cosmetic, reconstructive, skin cancer and hand/wrist trauma surgical services.

Bethesda Hospital

  • The hospital has nine operating rooms, two in-patient wards with an integrated special nursing unit, and a day surgery unit with single patient rooms. It provides a wide range of elective surgical and medical services including orthopaedic, urology, gynaecology, general surgery, pain management, oral, plastic and reconstructive surgery.

  • Mount Hospital
    • A 224 bed acute private hospital and a leader in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, in addition to their other specialties such as orthopaedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery and general surgery.

Perth Clinic

  • A 100 bed independent mental health facility, offering Inpatient programs, day programs, ECT, RTMS, and outreach programs.

South Perth Hospital

  • A 95 bed hospital with 5 operating theatres and a procedure room. The hospital covers a range of specialties including Orthopaedics, ENT, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Plastic and Reconstructive, Oral/Maxillofacial, Vascular, Adult and Paediatric Ophthalmology.

The Park Private Hospital

  • A 19 bed hospital with two operating theatres for conducting a variety of surgeries including; Maxillofacial, Oral Surgery, Cosmetic & Reconstructive, General, Podiatric Surgery, Pain Management, Gynaecology

Waikiki Private Hospital

  • A 45 inpatient bed hospital with two fully equipped theatres, an open access endoscopy unit, and on-site specialist consulting suites. Surgical and medical services offered include; Bariatric, ENT, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic, Opthalmology, Oral, Palliative Medicine, Plastic Surgery and Urology.



General Practice

With over 300 GP clinics located providing primary health services across the Perth region. Clinics range from National corporate groups to solo practitioners, as well as Aboriginal Medical Services.

1. Rottnest Island
